In the book the people of Lake Windsor Downs complain that the koi are being stolen from the pond (223), but they are wrong because they don’t pay attention enough to know that the osprey are eating them all. Ospreys are one of koi’s deadliest predators along with many of the other winged mammals such as the Blue Heron. These predators eat these koi mainly because they are attracted to their bright colors of their scales and skin. This is important because it shows you how much Paul pays attention to things even though he is “legally blind.”
